Guidelines for PostersIntroducing Your PosterAt the start of the time allocated for viewing posters, you will be able to address the whole conference to let them know what your poster is about. You will have about 1 minute and be able to use one slide. LegibilityPosters should be legible from 3 metres. The main text should be at least 8 mm high and the title should be at least 20 mm high, in bold, and no more than eight words long. Use serif fonts. Avoid text in capitals - upper and lower case is easier to read. If you want to emphasise, use another device. Reading TimeShould be about 5 minutes - with some leeway for different audiences. Aim for a maximum of 350 words of text. Scientific posters at technical meetings/conferences are usually more complex than those presented at field-days, for example, but don't be tempted to include large, complex tables or graphs. ColourUse colour to make the poster more attractive and to emphasise different sections, but remember that simple colour combinations are more effective than complex ones. Too much colour can distract. PhotographsUse good quality matt colour photographs (gloss photographs reflect light, making viewing more difficult). IdentificationInclude in a top corner, a portrait photograph and your name and affiliation. If you cannot staff your poster at all times, make available some business cards. NOTE: NZGA display boards are approximately 1200 mm wide and 1350 mm high. You should provide your own velcro sticky fixers. |
